Description

House of Emirates® is proud to present its elite clientele with a distinguished early Umayyad copper folis issued under ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān (AD 687–705), showcasing the transitional artistry of the Arab-Byzantine period.

This refined specimen features a Byzantine-style imperial figure on the obverse, depicted holding a globus cruciger, symbolizing authority and continuity with earlier imperial prototypes. The reverse displays a large “M”, the traditional Byzantine denomination mark, accompanied by surrounding inscriptions typical of the era.

Struck at the historic mint of Ḥimṣ (Homs), this folis captures the evolving visual language of an empire shifting from Byzantine to fully Islamic aesthetics—a tangible representation of the early reforms that paved the way for the standardized Islamic coinage that would soon follow.

With a diameter of 19 mm and weight of 3.66 g, it is a well-preserved and highly collectible example of early Umayyad numismatic history.

Ideal for investors in Islamic, Umayyad, or Arab-Byzantine coinage seeking a piece of genuine transitional artistry.
