Description

House of Emirates® is proud to present its elite clientele with an exceptional Silver Denarius of Roman Emperor Domitian, struck in Rome between AD 81–96, a testament to the power, authority, and divine favour associated with the Flavian dynasty.

This remarkable piece, weighing 3.51 g and measuring 18 mm, displays on its obverse the commanding, laureate portrait of the emperor with the inscription:
IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P XIIII, proclaiming his titles as Imperator, Caesar, Germanicus, Pontifex Maximus, and holder of his 14th Tribunician Power. The engraving captures Domitian’s stern elegance, his features sharply modelled with imperial confidence.

The reverse showcases a dynamic and symbolic scene:
Minerva, Domitian’s favored deity and protector, stands poised atop a rostral column, embodying victory, wisdom, and martial strength. She holds a spear and shield, prepared for both defense and triumph. To the lower right rests a delicate owl, reinforcing Minerva’s association with divine intelligence. The surrounding legend IMP XXII COS XVI CENS P P P celebrates Domitian’s 22nd imperial acclamation, 16th consulship, and perpetual censorship.

Cataloged as RIC 767, this denarius survives in very fine condition, with clear facial details, strong reverse iconography, and a gentle silver tone only time can bestow.

A distinguished addition to any collection of Roman imperial coinage—rich in history, artistry, and imperial symbolism. Perfect for connoisseurs seeking a piece that embodies the gravitas of Domitian’s reign.
